Born and raised in Woodford County, James Kay learned the value of hard work on the family farm.
James and his wife, Cara, live in Versailles and are proud products of Woodford County Public Schools. James and Cara welcomed their first child, a son named Kieran who is now 10 months old. Cara and James both believe in giving back to make the 56th District a better place to live, work, and raise a family.
James worked his way through the University of Kentucky and earned his law degree from the UK College of Law while providing free legal services to struggling local families.
His love for his community brought James home, where he started his own small business and legal practice serving central Kentucky.
James worked to earned the trust of his neighbors during the special election and is committed to representing everyone in the 56th District regardless of party.
Through working hard, honesty and building relationships, James has been a strong voice for the people of Woodford, Franlkin and Fayette Counties. He has passed meaningful legislation in his short time in Frankfort including House Bill 100 known as EPAD to help save Kentucky businesses on energy costs.
Rep. James Kay is one of the hardest working Representatives in Frankfort serving in leadership roles as the Vice Chair of the House Agriculture and Small Business Committee, Chair of the Education Assessment & Accountability Review Committee, and Chair of the Horse Farming Sub Committee. Rep. James Kay is also a voting member of the following committees Agriculture; Education; Banking and Insurance; Economic Development and Tourism; State Government; Veterans, Military Affairs, and Public Protection
